A message from Lesley
'Me mahi tahi tātou mō te oranga o te katoa'
'We should work together for the well-being of everyone'
I thought the whakatauki above was appropriate for us all as we navigate the current Covid 19 lockdown. It is so applicable to the varying contexts that we find ourselves in; as a nation, as principal colleagues and as family members. The idea that we should work together collectively for the mutual benefit of each other is significant at this time.
The WPA executive wanted you, our colleagues, to know that we are thinking of you and are here to offer our support to you in whatever ways we can. Some of you who are Beginning Principals may not have navigated Covid 19 lockdown before. There are others who may be in a different school context to that in lockdown last year. At the very least, we wanted all colleagues to know that if we can help in any way we will do so.
If you have whānau who are struggling in your community and need further support, a site called heretohelpu.nz is a great place to start. Here whānau can access information from a variety of community organisations that provide support to people in various ways.
We wish all of our colleagues in the Coromandel and Thames/Hauraki areas the very best as they work hard to support their communities at this time.
We would also like to acknowledge our business partners who may find themselves working from home or in lockdown with their families. The WPA greatly values the support of our business partners and we look forward to working with them again in the near future.
Kia haumaru koutou ko tōu whānau. Kia haumaru anō hoki i ngā kaiako me ngā tauira o tōu kura. Please keep you and your whānau safe along with your staff and students at this time.
Ngā manaakitanga,
Lesley Lomas
Interim President
Some ideas to help
While a lot of us were here last year we have some great Beginning Principals who may be navigating the pandemic from the hot seat for the first time. Hamish Fenemor at Cambridge East School has kindly shared some ideas around Home Learning Packs and an example of teacher expectations around Home Learning.
