It was great to spend time on Tuesday with Perry Rush and Rose Carpenter to explore the curriculum refresh. It is exciting that the Ministry are trying to engage with schools during the design phase and there are many different opportunities for schools to be a part of process. Perry made a point that as principals we don’t often get the opportunity to consider the purpose and design of our curriculum and what the curriculum actually requires of our students. One of the objectives of the curriculum refresh is get more consistency of delivery nationally. The point was made that localized curriculum should be an expression of national priorities in a local context, not the omission of the parts of the curriculum in favour of other parts. Rose will make her presentation available to us. We will post it on the Monday Mailout when we get it.

We almost have ‘full house’ for our Connection Day with Sport Waikato on the 24th of June. It going to be a fascinating day with an interesting exploration of the Health & Physical Education curriculum how it can be reinterpreted. I look forward to seeing you there.

Thank you for the words of support I have received regarding my appointment to the Director of Education role. I am very excited and nervous about the move. There are some big changes coming and it will be good to be a part of them.
