Time Management Tip
Emails… can’t live with them, can’t live without them! A great form of communication, and the bane of my time management life. I get between 30 and 50 emails every day to my school account.
The tip: use the unsubscribe button ruthlessly. Over the years, I have subscribed to sites that no longer have any interest or value to me.
If you are like me, unsubscribe!! Most emails have a link at the end of the email to do this.
Note - Don’t unsubscribe from the Monday Mailing!!!
Screenagers…
From Louisa Barham at Peachgrove Intermediate
A movie for educators and parents around the use of mobile devices by children and teenagers
This is just to let you know that we are screening a great movie for educators and parents, around the use of mobile devices by children and teenagers. The event starts at 7pm at Pukete School on Wednesday 18th May.
As well as the screening, the ticket includes refreshments and a moderated discussion, so that we can further explore some of the issues that are raised in the movie. Please feel free to publicise this great event by sharing this with your staff and BoT and, if possible, including it in your school newsletter and in any other ways you might have. All the information is included within the link below, including a trailer for the movie and more information about how and why it was made:

Board of Trustees Elections PowerPoint
Attached is a PowerPoint you could use with prospective parents wondering about being Board members…
Singapore Presentation
Attached is a PDF presentation about the Singapore trip. Feel free to use it to share with staff, BOTs, etc. The PowerPoint is very large (48 Mb) so I do not want to send it to everyone; email principal@deanwell.school.nz if you would like a copy.
WPA Executive Election Results
The following people were elected to the WPA Executive in the election that was held last term:
- John Coulam
- Tony Grey
- Nathan Leith
- Hamish Fenemor
- Tony Mangan
- Linda McCabe
Paul Cooper has been co-opted as our rep for Life Education; Pat Poland has been co-opted as Communications Officer.
Sincere thanks to the eleven school leaders who put their names forward for election; it shows real strength in our association.
Rant
Last week was Teacher Appreciation Week. Made me think about overseas teachers… Australia, Singapore, Canada… where schools receive at least three times the funding per pupil we receive in NZ – and our teachers still do a superb job.
Overseas, where a child diagnosed with autism receives huge resourcing from the day they start school… and in NZ they receive nothing in our mainstreaming heaven because they are ‘high functioning’…..
Our teachers do an amazing job!!

Tree Pruning Workshop
The Avis Leeson Fruit Tree Trust which gifted over 700 fruit trees last year to Waikato schools, and ECE's is holding a Tree Pruning Workshop at Rhode Street School on Friday 17th June from 9.00 am to 11.00 am. All schools are invited to attend and please bring some students (up to 4 per school) to learn how to look after your fruit trees.
There is no cost. Schools interested in receiving free four year old fruit trees this season in July are encouraged to attend as well and register your interest in receiving fruit trees. Contact Alastair Kerr viaalastair@rhodestreet.school.nz to register your attendance and/or expression of interest in receiving fruit trees this year.

A Laugh
From Jeff at Knighton…
The Dreaded Phone Call from the boss.
My boss phoned me today. He said,
"Is everything OK at the office?"
I said, "It’s all under control. It's been a very busy day. I haven't stopped to take a break all day."
"Can you do me a favour?" he asked.
I said "Of course. What is it?"
"Pick up the pace a little. I'm in the group behind you."
