A message from Lesley
Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou,
I hope our principal colleagues who were able to attend the WPA Study Tour to Otago had a fabulous time. It is always a privilege to visit other schools and it was great to see how the kura in Otago are delving into their local history.
The next WPA event on our calendar is the Term 3 Connections Day which is being held on Thursday 8th September at Claudelands Event Centre. Brooke Trenwith and Vanessa White will be the facilitators and their presentations will be
around 'Illuminating pathways to flourishing through Tiriti-honouring Trauma-Informed Practices'. You can register for this event on the WPA website.
Kia pai tō koutou wiki.

The Act of Leadership – Dan Haesler
A playbook for leading with humility, clarity and purpose
The Act of Leadership goes beyond the theory. It is a coaching playbook designed to empower you to be the leader you want to be, and the leader your people need you to be. Most books explain the what and the why of leadership, The Act of Leadership demonstrates the how.
I loved this book – I listened to it via Audio Book on Audible, but, it is available in hardcopy at Paper Plus and via Amazon. An easy read/listen but with some excellent, doable steps that you can pick and choose from to improve your practice as a leader. Also just some really great, thought provoking concepts.
2022 Subs
Please get your Subs paid! Gentle reminders will be coming your way if you are still not a financial member. Check the list just in case!

Messages from our sponsors
Farmer Time
A great opportunity shared from a WPA Colleague:
There is an exciting new FREE learning programme called Farmer Time, where students are connected virtually in real time with farmers in the field.
https://www.farmertime.co.nz/
Research tells us 81% of teenagers in New Zealand say they know only a little or nothing about farming and food production. Farmer Time is an excellent way to help children learn more about their food and where it comes from.
Sophie’s Heart
My name is Samantha Franklin (nee Oehley), I'm a secondary school teacher from the Waikato.
I'm currently promoting my picture book, "Sophie's Heart", to schools and kura.
Sophie's Heart was inspired by the passing of my daughter Sophie, who died from a congenital heart defect (CHD) in 2020. The story addresses death quite openly and is written as a companion to discussions about grief when someone we love dies, in particular, how do we show love when we cannot physically show it or say it.
If there are teachers, kaiako, librarians or school leaders who would like this book as a resource, further information (including a blurb and how to buy it) please click the link.
