A message from Lesley

Tēnā tātou katoa,

Greetings to all.

Once again we find ourselves as school leaders at the forefront of the Covid-19 pandemic dealing with the reality of this with our staff, students, and school community.

Term 1 has begun with a new challenge for us all as we further negotiate the implications of Covid 19 and the spread of the Omicron variant in many of our schools.  Like others, you may have had to contact the MoE SPOC to report positive cases in your school and then communicate with your school community about this.   You may have had to define your Close contacts, inform whānau and staff while sending teachers and students off into isolation due to the positive case/s.

All of this whilst keeping abreast of changes to Contact tracing forms, a lag in testing results, and the introduction of the portal.

My team was excited to start a new year and to focus on teaching and learning following the disruption to Term 4.  We, like many of you, are facing ongoing disruptions due to staff and student absences many of which are Covid related.  It is just as well we are resilient and adaptive professionals.  Thank you to the colleagues who have sent through their Covid-19 planning and parent communication tips for us to share and refer to, it is greatly appreciated.  To those of you who have not yet had a positive case in your school, reach out to your colleagues as you need to, they are a great source of support.

This year we are holding our WPA AGM online due to the cancellation of the Rotorua retreat that was due to be held next month.  The AGM is being held online on Wednesday, March 9th at 10am.  A link to this event will be sent out to WPA members closer to the time.

Take care and stay well everyone.

Ngā manaakitanga,

Lesley
