What an interesting start to the year we have had, although – we have all become super agile in recent times. Thinking of all of our colleagues that are dealing with positive Covid-19 cases within their schools. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you need some support.
Here’s to an amazing 2022 in our “new normal”!

Ngā mihi o te Tau Hou! Greetings for the New Year.
For those of us who started our school year last week, I hope your first few days of 2022 went well. For those starting their school year today, I hope you have a wonderful first day with your students as they return to school.
It has been somewhat of a daunting beginning to 2022 as we negotiate the onset of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 in our communities. To those colleagues in our region who are already dealing with cases in their schools, we send our support and best wishes as you deal with the complexities of this. Kia kaha, kia toa, kia manawanui.
Many of you have been present online for the kōrero with Marcus Freke, our Waikato Director of Education at the Ministry of Education. Thank you for your questions and queries to Marcus and his team and for helping the rest of us gain greater clarity and understanding in these challenging times.
The WPA executive met online last week and have decided that we would cancel our Principal's Retreat that was set down for March. Obviously, this is not a great time for principals to be away from their Kura and we thought it best to make this decision earlier rather than later. We do have some exciting things planned for a little later in the year. As we will not be heading to Rotorua in March, we will hold our AGM online next month. A reminder that nominations are now open for the WPA executive and nomination forms can be found on the WPA website. Nominations close on February 18th at 12pm. A friendly reminder that WPA 2022 subs are due now.
If you need support please remember to reach out to your colleagues or to members of the WPA executive. I am very grateful for the support that I receive from my principal colleagues when needed.
Take care and stay well,
Ngā manaakitanga
