A message from Lesley

Tēnā tātou katoa
Ngā mihi mahana ki a koutou katoa.
I want to acknowledge our Waikato colleagues who have been working at Alert Level 2 and I hope your term is going well.  No doubt you will be busy preparing for the latter part of the term and looking ahead to 2022.
For those of us in Waikato who are currently at Alert Level 3.2, our immediate attention had been focussed on preparations for a return to school for more of our students from Wednesday 17th November as announced last week.  This had been a somewhat challenging exercise, made easier by the support of colleagues.  Thank you to the principals who were willing to share their ideas and organisational tips.  This helped many of us with our decision making and preparations.
Of course we now no longer need the part-time/full-time rolls, the regorganised duty rosters and break times, the communication to parents about masks and staggered entry and exit times; as the announcement of a change to Alert Level 2 tomorrow at 11.59pm was made this afternoon.  To say that I am angry and immensely frustrated right now is an understatement!  I know that many of my colleagues who prepared for a part-time return on Wednesday are now feeling the same way.   I have spoken with the Director of Education - Waikato this afternoon following the announcement to express these sentiments and asked that they be passed on.
November 15th is upon us all today and the vaccination mandate is in place.  This too has created challenges for many of us and I hope you are getting the support you require to move forward with any staffing issues that may have arisen.  Term 4 is always a busy time for schools and this term 4 has been unlike any other that we have experienced (and we still have four weeks or so to go).
Take care of yourselves.  To support you with this, we have included a list of people and organisations that you can reach out to should you need.
Ngā manaakitanga
