Ngā mihi ki a koutou katoa ngā Tumuaki o te rohe o Waikato
I hope this email finds you all well.
This is a time when so much responsibility is placed on the shoulders of schools, in particular principals. Thank you for your continued hard work having prepared your staff and community for Alert Level 3. As we await today's announcement by the Prime Minister, many of you will be preparing for an anticipated move to Alert Level 2 sometime in the near future. This is a testament to the ability of principals to be proactive, flexible, adaptive, and well organised!
As you consider a move by staff and students back onto your school site, I felt that it was important to acknowledge our teachers and support staff in the work that they do to support our learners. At times like this, an analogy may be appropriate. The whakatauki below refers to the work done on the marae, with the leaders at the front ensuring the manuwhiri are welcomed appropriately and the workers busy behind the scene ensuring that the marae and kai is prepared for them. Both roles depend on each other and are equally important to the successful running of the marae.
Te amorangi ki mua, te hapai o ki muri
The leader at the front and the workers behind the scene
The same can be said for us in our leadership roles, where we rely on the commitment and goodwill of our staff to support us as leaders, particularly in times of challenge and hardship. As we prepare to return to our schools it is appropriate to acknowledge the team we have who work together with us to ensure positive outcomes for our learners and the wider school community.
Kia pai ō koutou wiki,
Lesley Lomas
Interim President
