Principals supporting Principals… Principals supporting Principles!
Kia Ora
Please find this week’s Monday Mailing below.
Welcome to week 7.
What a week in politics!
You can be anti-private and charter schools. But when one school (with 55 students) fits in with your own ideology you can throw eleven million dollars at it. The Green party should be ashamed of themselves. It was a great point made by Perry Rush in his article. If they funded schools to get rid of their coal boilers it would do much more for the planet. Good on the Principals of Taranaki for voicing their opinions. I would add if they funded every school to be fitted with double glazing and insulation, that would help the planet and the work force.
See you at connection day.
Have a great week.

Term 3 Connection Day Outline
Please find below further information in regards to our upcoming Connections Day In Term 3, we look forward to hosting a gathering of Senior School Leaders from across our Ropu on Thursday 3rd September
We look forward to having Marshall Diggs share his thoughts around Leading in a Changing World unpacking the following themes.
Sessions 1 - Leadership DNA in the 21st Century (Blurb)
With the death of the expert, and charismatic leadership now seen as a liability to an organisation, the question is only getting louder: What is the DNA of today’s best leaders? Leadership DNA takes an in-depth look at emerging requisites of 21st Century leadership and it unpacks what Emotional Intelligent Leadership entails in a school context.
Leadership DNA in the 21st Century can be challenging and juxtaposed to some of the traditional understandings and ideas about effective leadership. We will explore leadership trends since before the post-modernism era and share some of the most up-to-date and emerging leadership research from Dr Brene Brown's work: Strong Back, Soft Front, and a Wild Heart.
Session 2 - Across Generational Leadership (Blurb)
Across Generational Leadership - Building Generational IQ is an interactive workshop designed to empower collaboration and break-down generational tensions and misunderstandings. Across Generational Leadership - Building Generational IQ will equip you with leadership techniques that connects and unifies you and your team. When we are born shapes how we see the world and how we interact with the world. When we understand the “why” other generations see and think the way they do, we are much more likely to appreciate their differences and beginning listening and speaking in a language they can understand.
Today, educational leaders need to find the balance between appreciating the unique contributions of each team member and owning the capacity as a leader. By embracing the multi-generational teacher workforce and preparing your leaders appropriately, you will not only produce higher engagement and performance, but you will also begin to attract the best teachers of all ages. We will unpack the keys to winning across generations: Communication, Decision Making, Language, Loyalty, Relationships, Employment, Expectations and much more…
Session 3 - Leading High Performing Teams (Blurb)
As a leader, your job is to enable your team to thrive. Building and leading a high performing team demands that you know the nuances, personality styles, leadership styles and strengths of each of your team members. Leading High Performing Teams is a workshop designed to equip you with the keys to unlocking and building your own dream team by profiling you and your team against the leadership styles and requisites of other high performing teams.
To many leadership teams are created by default, not design. This workshop will share with you the art of knowing and positioning your team members in the right places, with the right tools, to enable you and your team(s) to reach their full potential.

Asthma Education Sessions
Kia ora from Asthma Waikato
We are offering free asthma education sessions for staff in the Waikato region, either in person or via Zoom, in order to ensure that kids with asthma in our region are as safe as they can be.
Our focus is kids aged 0-15 years.
We have been reaching out to schools to offer a session but unfortunately, we are often met with resistance at the reception desk. We understand schools are busy, but our education sessions ensure that staff reduce the risk of having to deal with a potentially life-threatening asthma attack on their watch. We know that staff attend first aid training, but in our experience, asthma requires more than a 5 minute spot amidst a first aid refresher. We know that people think they know about asthma already – but in our experience most people know very little.
1 in 7 kids have asthma in NZ, and sadly 77 people still die from asthma every year in NZ. The key to making sure asthma doesn’t result in another statistic hinges largely on prevention, as once a child has a entered the moderate to severe stage of an asthma flare-up, that’s where things get very dangerous.
So, as well as what to do in an emergency, we teach the staff in schools so much more. Our 30 minute session teaches them:
- What asthma actually is
- The difference between the key medicines used to treat it and which ones should not be seen at school
- Correct technique to administer the inhalers
- Action plans, asthma policies, what each child with asthma in that school should have
- Red flags – when to act early so that this child doesn’t end up in an asthma emergency
- Asthma first aid
- Asthma triggers
- All about our service (which is free) and ensuring families know they can come to us
- Q&A
We also provide an Asthma First Aid poster, wording for an email to send to families and any support that is needed after our session.
The entire teaching staff need not attend – we can just teach a few who can pass the message on. Or we can do the session viz Zoom and then record it and send it to the school so that others can watch it at a time that suits.
We are here to help. If you wish to discuss further, then please do let us know.
