The Ministry is currently in a tender process for all Ministry contracted (non-SESTA) school transport routes. We are not tendering any DR services, the operation of those contracts, including expiry/tender/renewal remains with the funded DR. If any DR school has a transport contract expiring then it should be following the guidelines in the Funding Agreement to ensure that transport remains in place.
The current DR Agreement was issued in 2018 – it was issued for one year, and has two one year rights of renewal. Currently, the Agreement expires December 2019, but there is still a one year extension option.
More information aimed specifically at DR Schools and Networks will be released shortly – but I can confirm that the routes currently assigned to the DRs are not included in our national tender.
Latest around negotiations
Today NZEI along with the support of NZPF are getting back around the table with the Ministry negotiation team. We look forward to hearing of positive progress in talks that will hopefully negate the need for further industrial action.
NZEI have looked to different Principal Associations for support of future action and have sent out to some principals a draft letter to consider that has unfortunately been circulated further afield and taken as the next steps. Our WPA Executive expressed support for the letter but encouraged NZEI to firstly return to the negotiating table in good-faith before putting in place the circulated withdrawal from Ministry initiated work. To be very clear, this doesn’t mean you fully withdraw from working with the Ministry, it just means not being part of working groups, sending in information to the Ministry, working on non-urgent issues. If you need to sort out emergency property or sorting funding for your school or individual students, you would continue to do this.
As mentioned above, hopefully we will get movement immediately around negotiations to avoid any further frustration.
On Tuesday evening I’m heading to the Annual NZPF Conference to be held in Auckland, if you are heading to Auckland and would like to be included in a WPA gathering, please email to let me know so I can include you in arrangements. Hamish Fenemor - principal@cambridgeeast.school.nz
Over the course of our non-contact time, you might take the opportunity to do some reading or improve your own knowledge. One thing that has had an impact on the work we are doing at Cambridge East School has been watching the documentaries around the Kiingitanga Movement. You might not be aware, that one of the 3 overall goals for the Tainui Education Plan is all students are taught about the Kiingitanga Movement and its impact and involvement in New Zealand History. The 3 part series is an excellent learning tool for not only the Kiingitanga movement but around Waikato history. The 3 part series can be found via this link below:

Please take some down time over the holidays, reconnect with whanau and give them some of your time with re-charged batteries as no doubt, school has dominated your last 10 weeks, especially if you have just completed the Reporting season.

Help!! - Teacher Wanted
Our school, situated in the heart of the King County and only 30 minutes (in a fast car) from Te Awamutu or 15 minutes from Te Kuiti and Otorohanga, is seeking a vibrant, positive teacher to work with our vibrant, positive tamariki in a fixed-term position for terms 3–4. We offer very small class sizes in a positive, supportive environment.
Two excellent cafes, making superb coffee, within a one minute walk of the school!
We would prefer a full-time teacher but would consider applications for 0.6 or 0.8 FTTE.
The successful applicant will work in either a Y4–6 class with 10 children or a Y7–8 class with 18 students.
Email principal@waitomo.school.nz or phone 0272 765 263 for further details or to apply!!!
