Help!!
I would be interested to know what power we have as schools to keep sick children at home.
Are we able to insist that they are taken to a doctor and not allowed to return to school until a medical certificate is shown?
Responses to principal@deanwell.school.nz please, and I will forward them to the requesting Principal.

Rant – Changes to the Education Act
Establishing designated character schools - click here.
“The updated Act now has a single process for establishing designated character schools that is more accessible and simpler to follow. This includes removing the requirement for the Minister of Education to be satisfied that the parents of at least 21 potential students want the school established as the sole means of gauging demand.”
Isn’t this wonderful!! It will now be easier to set up Charter schools – never mind that they have not been proven successful!!
It would be great to see data or other information about how these schools are making a difference; and to see what funding they are receiving compared with State schools; and to view the balance sheets to see what profits the schools are making for their owners.
But mostly, I would like the Government to answer this question: if National Standards are so vital for our children, why do we not see NS data from Charter Schools; why is it not compulsory for Charter Schools NS data to be made public? And if National Standards are so important, why are private schools not required to implement them?
Hmmm…

A Reading… Behaviour Management
This is a very interesting perspective looking at children’s behaviour. Well worth a read.
