Rant – Changes to the Education Act

It’s all about control, folks. This Government seems to be hell bent on taking choice away from schools:

  1. The Ministry can develop and put in place an enrolment scheme when a school refuses or is slow to do so.
  2. The second makes it clear that the Secretary for Education can override an enrolment scheme and direct a school to enrol a child or young person under exceptional circumstances.

Have a look at

https://education.govt.nz/assets/Documents/Ministry/Legislation/Ed-Act-Update-Factsheets/Ed-Act-Update-FS-10-Improving-the-management-of-enrolment-schemes.pdf

Note: The opinions expressed in the Rant are not necessarily those of the WPA; they are all mine!! Pat Poland
