Term 4 Catch Up Day - Cheryl Doig
Thursday November 3
Future focused schools: What and How?
Cheryl will take us on a quick romp into the world of exponential technologies and the global changing landscape; explore the implications for schools and leadership; and dig deeper into the trend towards collaboration. During all three sessions there will be a mix of 'deep dives', interaction with peers and development of strategies for your unique environment. No matter what sort of school setting you are in, you will be challenged and encouraged to move ideas to action.
9.10 - 10.10 An Outwards Mindset: Global Trends
Key drivers of change are forcing us to deconstruct our industrial model of education and remix it to meet the needs for a vastly different world. In this session Cheryl will explore the significant changes affecting the world, including the impact of Exponential Technologies. Are you personally and professionally aware of these? What are the implications for learners?
11.00 - 12.00 Leadership of a Learning Ecosystem
Leaders of the future will need to remix their capabilities, pivot like never before and embrace new relationships. We will explore the learning ecosystem of schooling and what this means for you as a leader of change in an increasingly complex world. What capabilities need to be developed, strengthened and abandoned? What about those who will be the leaders after you? Will your legacy be a liability or a springboard?
2.00 - 3.00 Leading Collaboration: What Really Matters
In the final session of the day we will focus on collaboration as one of the key ingredients of a learning ecosystem. What are the positives and pitfalls for schools, clusters and CoLs. Why might we collaborate and when? What are examples of successful collaboration in education and business? Where to next?

CORE Breakfast
The next CORE Breakfast is on 10 November with Janelle Riki-Waaka presenting a seminar and workshop session on Innovative Pathways for MÄori achieving educational success as MÄori.
The focus of this breakfast seminar will explore innovative ways that schools can create environments to empower MÄori students and raise achievement for all students in the process. Janelle will discuss several avenues of support for school leaders and teachers to enhance their culturally responsive practices, and strengthen their relationships with MÄori students and their whÄnau.
During the workshop, participants will be supported to develop a Responsiveness Plan for their schools aimed at empowering all learners and their whÄnau to engage with their school and feel empowered in all aspects of their achievement. We will also explore how schools can form stronger connections with students and their whÄnau through developing 'flipped' curriculum support and access to learning support outside of school hours.

Hmmm…
Hauora… Health & Happiness
Have you contacted a near-by Principal this term? Give them a ring or pop in for a cup of coffee. Chat about COLs, gardening, the V8s… but be there for each other.
You can make a difference.
Rant – Housing
Three of our Deanwell families have been placed in motels by Housing Corp… at a cost of between $1,200 and $1,400 per week. And there is not housing crisis in the Waikato???
As always, the polices of this Government benefit the well-off and big corporations, and impact severely on those at the poverty end of the spectrum.
