Rant
Jeepers creepers. The NZ Herald has found that all the money (not to mention time of teachers) poured into implementing the flawed National Standards programme has not produced positive response. Amazing!
I do believe many Principals pointed out the flaws when the National Standards fiasco was introduced.
Schools now have to take what was useful out of National Standards; be positive; and do what is best for children.
To make meaningful difference to achievement – and to reduce the underachievement tail - issues of poverty must be addressed. Financial poverty. Poverty of the spirit (we have many desperate families). Poverty in terms of literacy.
This Government is attempting to address the above – but it is a challenge with their right wing agenda which is increasing the gap between the wealthy and the rest. An example is house prices: as more and more rental houses are purchased by investors, rents have to go up for the investors to recoup the ridiculous prices they are paying. The poor pay the ultimate price – more money for rent means less for food and other staples.

A Reading… Rules for Great Teaching – Agree of Disagree?
Leadership
This is a great reading – common sense but criticial.
A Thought – Leadership
A Laugh
- Dyslexic man walks into a bra''…
- A young blonde woman is distraught because she fears her husband is having an affair, so she goes to a gun shop and buys a handgun. The next day she comes home to find her husband in bed with a beautiful redhead. She grabs the gun and holds it to her own head. The husband jumps out of bed, begging and pleading with her not to shoot herself. Hysterically the blonde responds to the husband, ''Shut up...you're next!''
